Dark Star Sports & Social club, operating since 1978, launched HELP A POOR CHILD (HAPC) in 1980. Even though HAPC was always going to be the club’s charity project, initial beneficiaries and Recipient Branches were confused and corresponded in the name of Dark Star. They only really started to use the name of HELP A POOR CHILD in the late 80s. In fact some images and marketing material used by beneficiaries, carry the name of both Dark Star and HELP A POOR CHILD!
By the early 90s, and certainly when the charity gained charitable status in 1991, HAPC started to operate independently and established its own identity.
Dark Star Sports & Social club organises social functions and operates a soccer team, playing in the Kent league. They continue to be a loyal supporter of HAPC.
